It was the summer before my freshman year of university.
Everyone around me was hyping me up.
“Matt Caldaroni—one of the most highly-rated goalkeeping prospects.”

I felt like a rock star... until I showed up to camp.
Out of shape. Undisciplined. Embarrassed.
My coach’s words still echo: “Matt, what happened?”
I had let success distract me.
Late nights.
Junk food.
Laziness.
I thought the hard work was over—but that summer rocked my world.
And it taught me a hard truth: SUCCESS CAN BE DANGEROUS.
It’s funny, I’d spent so many years fighting through one type of adversity that I forgot about the other type: success.
Success is sneaky.
It doesn’t announce itself with warning signs like failure does.
Instead, it lulls you into a false sense of security.
When you succeed, you start to relax.
You stop doing the things that got you there in the first place.
Discipline slips, focus fades, and before you know it, you’re not just standing still—you’re moving backward.
The danger?
Success isn’t permanent. It’s rented, and the rent is due every single day.
The Secret to Handling Success
Why Success Can Derail You:
Most people think success is the finish line.
But it’s not.
It’s just proof that what you’re doing is working—and it’s time to double down.
Success is fragile. Like a muscle, it weakens when you stop working on it.
The Secret? Prepare to Let Go.
At Molliteum, we teach our athletes this simple truth: How you prepare determines how you perform.
Here’s the exact 6-step process we give our athletes to handle success like pros:
Identify 3 key skills that make you unstoppable.
Get specific: How will you use them in your next game?
Visualize each one 10 times—see yourself executing them perfectly.
Practice those skills for 5-10 minutes after every session.
Study your opponent and prepare a game plan to dominate.
Focus on your 3 strengths during the game—nothing else.
It’s simple, it’s powerful, and it works.
Are You Ready to Take Control of Your success?
Success isn’t the problem—preparation is. And that’s where we come in.
👉 Discover your next level with the Resilience Profile.
