Hot take: there’s so much to learn from the Mike Tyson x Jake Paul fight.

Why might you ask?

Well, simply because this is one of the best undercover David and Goliath stories!

In fact, this is probably one of the more relatable sporting events that most athletes can get something from….let me explain.

On one hand you have Mike Tyson - the “Goliath.”

Former world heavyweight champion, a known dominator, and (like most champions), A LOT of ego on the table.

See, most athletes who are notorious winners are like Mike when they’re going up against a weaker opponent - they have their reputation on the line with a lot at stake.

Sure, it’s just a fight, but our ego’s are one of the most coveted and protected things we all have (isn’t it?).

And if you’re finding yourself in a position like Mike is where you have something to lose, and you’re facing a weaker opponent, then chances are you can take a lot from him.

Jake, on the other hand, is a character; a man who’s putting into practice delusional optimism as he takes on Goliath - aka, the “David” of this fight.

See, although Jake may come out as confident and sure of himself, and preaching to everyone that he can do it, the reality is that he’s suffering from some self-doubt.

And like any athlete taking on a Goliath, as much as there’s an underdog effect, there’s always that hint of self-doubt going on in the back of your mind.

Think about it - you keep telling yourself you’ve got this, but the ability to build that self-belief is a different story.

So, Chris and I decided to make a podcast episode on this and break down the psychology behind each fighter and to give you practical steps to deal with the fear of failure, self-doubt, and pressure.
