Have you ever wondered what really separates the top athletes from the rest?


It’s been said many times, “They don’t play the same as everyone else.”


So what game are they playing?


They’re focused on their internal world and crafting the person they want to be.


In fact, it’s one of the first things we did with an NBA player we were working with this past year to help him change the trajectory of his career.


WHAT THIS MEANS

The best of the best focus on the athlete they want to be and start taking steps toward it daily.


They know if they focus solely on this, then the results will take care of themselves.


Here’s why: your IDENTITY > dictates how you SEE or PERCEIVE situations > which dictates the ACTIONS you take > and lead to the RESULTS that you want.


It doesn’t matter if they’re living that reality yet or not, they practice success before it happens.


And that’s exactly what we did with our NBA player.


He went from, “A guy grinding it out,” to…


“Being one of the best Power Forwards in the league.”


Think of what that simple mindset shift did for him.


It wasn’t a question any more of, “Should I do the extra work..?”


And instead shifted to, “What would the best Power Forward in the league do?”


This simple shift changed his life with EVERY decision he made.


And it can do the same for you.


HOW TO TAKE THE SAME STEPS AS OUR NBA PLAYER

Step 1: get clear on the athlete you want to do. Describe the type of person and impact you want to have on the game and in your life.


Step 2: create compelling reasons why it’s important for you. Write them out. Who’ll be impacted? How will life get better?


Step 3: understand what it’s going to take. Everything costs something. Write it out. These become the new standards you must hold for yourself.


TAKE ACTION

It really is that simple.


Waking up to your current reality is the most important thing you can do.


The best athletes in the world craft their reality.


They don’t tell others what they’re capable of.
